Location: Fort Myers, Florida — Residential Backyard Project
Project Type: Swimming Pool Foundation Stabilization
Client: Local Swimming Pool Contractor
Completion Date: June 2024
Southwest Florida’s soil conditions are notoriously variable, often posing unique challenges for homeowners looking to build backyard swimming pools. Fort Myers, located on Florida’s Gulf Coast, is no exception. The area’s diverse soil composition includes sandy soils, clay layers, and variable water tables due to proximity to the Caloosahatchee River and nearby estuaries.
For years, Coastal Foundation Solutions has partnered with Fort Myers’ leading swimming pool contractors to provide superior foundation support using helical piles. A proper foundation for pools is critical not only to prevent settling and structural damage but also to ensure long-term safety and aesthetic appeal.
In this project, our team was contracted after a local pool contractor required a reliable, strong, and corrosion-resistant foundation system for a new residential pool. The goal was to deliver a system that could withstand Southwest Florida’s soil variability, water intrusion, and potential settlement issues.
Our engineering team conducted a detailed review of project requirements and soil conditions based on geotechnical reports from the Fort Myers area. Given the need for a high-capacity and durable foundation, the decision was made to install 18 helical piles to support the new swimming pool structure.
Helical piles were selected for their versatility and rapid installation capabilities. Each pile was engineered to achieve a 10-ton working capacity, providing ample support for the pool slab and perimeter structure.
The installation involved 23 additional galvanized round shaft extensions to reach the required depths through sandy soils and clay layers common to the Fort Myers region. This ensured piles reached competent soil strata for maximum load transfer.
Once the piles were in place, galvanized termination caps were installed on each pile to protect against corrosion, especially important in Southwest Florida’s humid, salt-air environment adjacent to the Gulf Coast.
The installation was completed efficiently with minimal disruption to the homeowner’s property and neighborhood. Our dedicated helical pile team utilized advanced torque monitoring and specialized equipment to ensure precise installation depth and load-bearing capacity.
The swift completion of the helical pile installation paved the way for the pool contractor to proceed with forming, shotcreting, and finishing the pool structure with confidence in its foundation.
The homeowner now enjoys peace of mind, knowing their swimming pool is supported by a foundation engineered to withstand the challenging soil and groundwater conditions found in Fort Myers, Florida.
Fort Myers sits within the diverse Southwest Florida coastal region, where soil conditions can rapidly change over short distances. Proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, Caloosahatchee River, and numerous estuaries leads to variable groundwater tables and saline environments. The use of galvanized helical piles is critical here, as they offer durability against corrosion, particularly in humid, coastal conditions.
Our team’s extensive local knowledge of Fort Myers’ geology allows us to tailor foundation solutions that mitigate risks like soil settlement, erosion, and water intrusion, ensuring structural longevity for residential pools and other specialty foundations.

Charlie’s expertise in helical pile technology, foundation stabilization, and corrosion-resistant marine construction enables him to deliver solutions tailored to Florida’s challenging coastal environments.
Helical piles offer quick installation, precise load-bearing capacity, and excellent corrosion resistance, making them ideal for the variable soils and coastal conditions in Fort Myers, FL.
High groundwater tables common near Fort Myers can cause soil shifting and settlement. Helical piles penetrate deep into stable soils, bypassing unstable upper layers and mitigating settlement risks.
Galvanized termination caps and corrosion-resistant steel shafts protect piles from salt-air and moisture, minimizing maintenance and extending lifespan even in harsh coastal settings.
